“Apart together” is starting to feel really close as we hear more about the ways you’re coping at home, especially those who got their hands on some Old Pal. For those who haven’t, here’s a link to our delivery partners that are stoking you with a little smokable tranquility. As always, feel free to send us anything that interests you too. We’re all in this together.
DIVERSIONS
Feeling anxious? Our friends at Monster Children Magazine show us how to get your chill back. Choreographer Ryan Heffington is starting an at-home dance revolution with his Instagram sweat fest. Virtually tour participating museums while staying horizontal. Cook your way to comfort with over 450 wellness recipes and see what LA restaurants are still offering their services for all you foodies out there.
A HELPING HAND
Society is only as strong as the weakest people and this whole situation has made all of us pretty vulnerable with some worse off than others. Propping people up at a time like this will not only help you feel more positive but also lend a hand to those in need. As a part of our Legalize Humanity efforts, we work with RAICES, a nonprofit that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost legal services to underserved immigrant children, families and refugees in Central and South Texas. If not them, see where you might be able to give some good on a local level.
A MESSAGE FROM AN ART PARTNER
Sent by our friends at Autre Magazine: “The creative community is facing a critical challenge, which is why it is more important than ever to support artists during this global black swan event. The silver lining in experiencing a pandemic during the information age is that access to art is available at our fingertips. As a magazine editor, we can support artists directly by finding unique ways to funnel advertising budgets to creatives in quarantine to produce content. You can also get on the phone, talk to artists and creatives, they will enlighten, alleviate fear and offer novel solutions. Don’t be afraid to print their words. Do your research, buy art online. Follow Instagram accounts, like @thestreetandtheshop who supports local Los Angeles-based artists.”
PLANT A PAL
One way of staying sane through all this is practicing self-care and also helping grow another living thing. To encourage that, our friends at Hot Cactus have been posting regular messages on their Instagram vis-à-vis their green thumbs. While they’re letting their specimens breathe on their own at their tiny greenhouse retail location, you can shop online and arrange a safe pickup of a new prickly pal. Spring has sprung so if you can’t put a plant in a pot, take a walk within reason during this time of social distancing and pick some wild-flowers for your windowsill.
Our hearts are with you during this trippy time and hope we can continue to serve as a place of peace for you and your pals.
