California Golde

We gathered under the stars at 1700 Naud to celebrate the new film from our friends Sandy Carson and Ronnie “Ultra” Romance, Jr. Aptly titled California Golde, this beautiful film is a technicolor fantasy that celebrates the magic of California summer, all experienced from the saddle of a few heavy-duty touring bicycles. Shot on super 8 and set amidst the scenic moonscapes of Sequoia National Forest and Yosemite National Park, the intrepid group of cyclists explores lost valleys, mystical watering holes, and braves the smoke from one of the worst wildfires in state history. To call this an epic adventure would be an understatement.

As for the party itself, the turnout was better than we ever imagined, with both cyclists and non-cyclists mingling over a shared love of all things analog. Many could be found in the Cosmic Collider telling tall tales, passing around some Old Pal, and showing their love for the church of the holy spokes. There was even a gang of riders that rode over from our favorite Silver Lake bike shop, the Golden Saddle.

As the night wore on, drinks flowed freely from our friends at PBR and Madre Mezcal. For the munchie-inclined, we had buttery popcorn to satiate their saltiest of cravings. We finished off the night with a little dance party and toasted to all the analogue gods, fully stoked on the low-fi inspiration that both Carson and Romance shared with us all.
